Network TEN - Meet the Press - 8 Feb 09
8.00am - 8.30am Network Ten Meet the Press
Meet the Press with Paul Bongiorno returns for 2009. This week Paul will be joined on the panel by The Age's Michelle Grattan, and Malcolm Farr from The Daily Telegraph. Together they will interview:
Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull about the coalition's opposition to the Rudd Government's $42b economic stimulus package, and
NSW Premier Nathan Rees on how he and his government plan to spend their slice of the Rudd Goverment's $42b gift to the States.
Do you think the Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull is crazy-brave in opposing the $42b package or is he doing the right thing on behalf of Australian taxpayers? Will the states responsibly spend the money they receive from the $42b package, and will you benefit, or is this just another attempt by Federal Labor to bail out their State mates in tough times? Add your comment below.
Other programs this weekend: Today on Sunday, Weekend Sunrise, Insiders, Inside Business, Sunday Agenda, Sunday Business

To get people spending and keep them spending, I agree with Turnbull's call to bring forward tax cuts rather than a one-off handout that will be spent (either on debt or just spent) in seconds. But why reject the infrastructure spending. Regardless of the economic climate, it is infrastructure that is desperately needed. If this spending will force the States' to live up to their responsibilities - and highlight their previous failures, I think it should be passed - as long as it is accountable and there is no way the States' can squander it as they have done with our GST money.
